Getting frustrated... suggestions?

On a run of getting deep in MTTs only to get knocked out close to being ITM. Cash tables have been dry too (ever since winning my biggest pot to date several nights ago). It's frustrating because I feel like I'm playing well. What do you guys usually do in these situations? Don't let it effect you and keep playing? Take a few days off? Go get drunk?

Whatever..

Come and give me some? lol. It is what it is and its hard as hell to deal with. You go through spurts of winning, winning, winning and all of the sudden it dries up. Why am I not winning a ton every night anymore? I am going through a REAL dry time in my cash game, for the past week. I keep wondering why it took 2 weeks to make 1500, and its taken 2 weeks to lose 300. I am just not getting anywhere.

However it will turn around. Sometimes it is good to take time off, or do something different. Like play some micro-limit Omaha for a night or two. Just have some fun. Either that or you can hit the 30.60 tables with me. LMAO. Please do not do this!!

No Comments allowed on your blog? What fun is that? I liked your latest post. Interesting. Along the lines of how I like to play a set. If you can check-call it down, or make minimal bets, even on a scary board, you stand the chance of killing someone who gets TPTK. Also, things like flushes and straights are easy to see and get away from. Keep up the Blog, it is good.

Take a little time off.... as long as it takes for you to come back and WANT to be playing poker. I've come to learn that a positive/attitiude is worth a LOT of BBs... I make a lot more money when I'm in a good mood than when I'm palying frustrated.

LOL!! I tried to find how to include those but to no avail... I want people to post comments so I'll try to get that in there as soon as possible.

Thanks for the props on the blog, really appreciate it... been enjoying reading yours for a while now.

That's what I'm doing... even passed on a home game last night. What I am also doing with the down time is reading through Small Stakes Hold 'Em, that should help. :D

I havent been on here for like 3 days for the same reason, crazy dry spell and bad beats. Really got me annoyed and as you know i keep a weak little roll online and practically lost it all. I am glad i cashed out what i consider alot already and soon im gonna come back to poker and just play alot smaller limits. Taking time off really does work, i actually wish i did it before i lost most my roll rather than later but what can ya do.

I just found SSHE that I had borrowed, and I am about to start it. Hoping it helps me improve as much as people say it will.

Reel Deal 10-23-05 04:32 PM

Yeah, me too.

Well, got back to it tonight after taking most of the weekend off and reading/skiming through Small Stakes Hold 'Em. It paid off nicely as I netted $236 at one $100NL table at Titan tonight. Mostly took it off one donk who might have been the worst player I've ever come across. :D

johnp158 10-23-05 11:56 PM

Umm...

Congrats on the good night, but how did reading SSHE help at a $100NL table?

Reel Deal 10-24-05 09:29 AM

There are plenty of basic concepts in that book that apply to both limit and NL. The sections on EV and preflop play (ie, the advice on which hands to raise preflop, which to limp with and which you want to play heads-up vs. multiway) and the advice on aggression all apply to NL. I think part of my "slump" was attributable to getting too passive and limping with hands I should be raising and hoping to hit the flop, as opposed to being the aggressor and taking control of the hand. The book helped remind me (and reinforce for me) the proper way to play (ie, avoid being passive except in limited circumstances).

Changed the settings this a.m. so that it will accept comments now.

Hope to update it sometime later today.

Congrats!

Nice win. I have been in a dry spell too. I am going to switch to MTTs for a week. Since I have been ITM in most of the ones I have played. No big hits yet, but if I keep plugging away..
