I know this is not a suckout or a bad beat technically but this happened to me twice last night.. does it have a name? Just poker getting your hopes up just to kick you in the junk?

So you are short stacked, you have a decent hand like AT s000ted or something, you decide to push, someone comes over the top and its HU now. He flips his meager JJ and WHAM! Ace on the flop! Styling baby! Until.. you get 2-outered on the turn. Ug! I had this happen twice last night to knock me out of tourneys, and once more I pushed with AA vs some guy with QQ and he spiked his Q... yeeessshhh.. I hope this is suppose to be a rare occurance. Does this need a special name, since, technically, since you were not ahead pre-flop it is not a bad beat..

Why do I think of these things.. I must like torturing myself..

The first situation, that's called "the best hand holding up."

The second one, well that's the "junk kick." I guess.

When JJ beats AT after AT briefly takes the lead, I call it "justice."

Heh

I was thinking that.. but couldnt JJ just win outright?

Um... yes. That's called "the best hand winning." I didn't think that was the question you were asking though.
