Speed Tourney on PP

Just got knocked out of the $20+ $2 speed tourney on PP. If you are not familiar, the blinds go up every 3 minutes. Has anyone played these before? I have played 6 or 7 of them and the hands are always amazing. There was a pocket pair on at least 50% of the hands. Inevitably, someone goes all in with a middle pair (6-9) and someone calls with AK/AQ/AJ. I don't know if it is just me, but there seems to be at least two hands in each deal that are legitimate all-in hands. Regular tourneys are not that way. Maybe it is just that players know that the blinds are going up so fast, they have to make a stand or get blinded out. I finished 75 out of 310. In the 40 minutes of hands, there was KK at least 5 times, AA 3 times and a many, many low pairs and AK/AQ/AJ/A10. Just on the table I was at. The bet to me put me all-in and I had pocket Q's. Of course the guy who went all in AK and hit the Ace. Seems to be too many good starting hands. Maybe I am just delusional.

I've never played one of these (I prefer slow blind increases), but yes, you're delusional :D I'm certain it's on the up and up.

I honestly think these mirror B&M tournaments closer than regular on-line games. In a B&M game where the blinds go up every 15 minutes you see about 15 hands give or take, on-line you may see 30-40 or many more in that time. With the blinds increasing every 3 mins you still see 10-15 hands in that time so that's close to what you would see in a B&M tourney. If you have only played tourneys on-line and are going to a cardroom I would definatly try a speed tourney on-line first so you get an idea of how fast things go in a B&M tourney.

no way do we see 30 hands in 1 blind increase.

I may be estimating on the high end, but my point remains the same. In a B&M tournament you may not even post in the first 15 minutes if you are in the 9 or 10 seat, on-line you will often post twice in any given round. Speed tournaments go to the other extreme, but still are closer to B&M then a regular on-line game.

I agree with TP that regular blind intervals, are the best. These turbo tournies are more of a crapshoot than ever. I try to play a good, tight, aggressive game so these turbos are not my boat. Makes the maniacs even crazier.
BTW. I have been playing in smaller tournies, and some SnGs lately. Played in a very small $2+.20 on tropics last night, and MY hands were crazy and I still couldnt win. there was only 23 people in the tourney, and I finished 17th so obviously I didnt play for too long. I had AA, KK twice, QQ, JJ, and AKs!! Lost a pot with AKs, when someone called a decent raise with 89o, then called allin with bottom pr. (I had royal flush draw!). then busted out KK vs. JJ (rivered by a $%*#ing J).
