I am the Bad Beat King!

I put this Bad Beat on today. I am not proud of it. Anyone think I should have folded the flop? I really only had 15BB in by the turn and had to call a capped round. I think KQ and myself should have folded. However I was having a slightly down session and decided to see the turn, and the river if the turn gave me 4 to a flush. I would have won if I made the flush also. So I have a gutshot straight draw and a backdoor flush draw. Otherwise I am drawing dead. I was about 5BB short of having pot odds for the call. Chances are if I make either of my hands I win. If the board pairs I was thinking I beaten by a boat (which turned out to be true). Its nice to see one of my Bad Beats win for a change! heh.

haha, very nice beat. you probably should have laid it down though, what if someone was sittin on AQ, AK? you coulda been drawing dead, that's a really bad play but hey it pays off sometimes.

johnbaker 12-06-04 01:58 AM

ive lost all respect for you. i hope you made that up as a joke or something...

SirFWALGMan 12-06-04 10:11 AM

Nobody Should Respect Me!

Disclaimer: I write a Poker blog and play alot and pretent I know what I am doing, but nobody should respect or even listen to me much.

I know it was a REALLY bad play. All I can say in my defence is I was having a bad session and said "WTF! I am going to go for it!". It was the last hand I was going to play on that table for the night. I needed to get some sleep for work and things like that which get in the way.

If you think you were dissapointed how do you think SoonersRule2 felt?

hackers238 12-06-04 11:17 PM

Haha great excuse... Did you ever think that it only takes 1 of those hands every other hour to move you from 3 BB/hr to about -3 BB/hr??

don't get me started on BB/hr again...

huh

since when has it been ok to make the wrong decisions, wrong calls and put a bad beat on someone and be proud about it? What is this game comming to where there is a forum about it?

SirFWALGMan 12-07-04 09:48 AM

Sometimes you feel like a nut..

Hey, never said I was proud of it. Sharing my shame. The second one I actually had the right pot odds to make the call so I am ok with that move.

junYUN 12-07-04 01:46 PM

sTAY AWAY FROM MY TABLES WITH YOUR GUTSHOTS!

Kidd7138 12-07-04 03:33 PM

At least you didn't river either of them, if that makes the loser feel better, maybe? o wait it doesn't.

Keep getting lucky man, its working for you so far lol

Tuff Luck 12-07-04 04:27 PM

Geez.. do you live 6 sigmas out of the normal distribution or something??

Haha.. gotta love tilt boys.

SirFWALGMan 12-08-04 11:43 AM

For something Different..

I had the same draw again and showed some restraint this time and folded it. Would have missed anyway. I think I have a knack for when to play this hand! heh.

ChipFish 12-08-04 11:54 AM

Wow!
That first hand I am still shaking my head about.
But hey, I'm glad you won, I'd rather someone from here wins a hand like that than someone I don't know.... Mind you that Set of Jacks Guy must be pissed!
I still can't believe you cold-called 2 bets (Twice!!!!) on the flop  with nothing but a straight draw. Gutshot at that.

Nice catch! :D

SirFWALGMan 12-08-04 12:04 PM

No Kidding!

I hardly ever play that way. Sometimes if I am having a frustrating night, and the pot is large (yeah, no pot odds but a sweeeeet pot!) I will go too far. It tends to be a -EV leak, but sometimes it works out. One day I will be more consistant.

johnbaker 12-10-04 09:27 PM

..uhhhh....yeah, typically calling WITHOUT pot odds with a fucking gutshot will cause a -EV leak.....

btw you did not have correct odds to call the second time... keep telling yourself that as an excuse for such a shitty play though, who am i to call you a terrible player?

-jB

sjay2k 12-12-04 06:49 AM

It's actually a good call in my opinion.

On the flop it cost you $12 to call for a pot that was slightly under $100. Odds for turning the Q is 4/47 -- however if you hit the straight, you'll have the nuts in a hand with four other players who are betting like madmen. Since the turn and river are the big betting rounds, I think you're assured of at least another 10 big bets ($60)

So basically even paying the full $12 on the flop is a good move. Your average return on the $12 in this situation is at least 4/47 * $160 = $13.61. There was a chance that you could have seen the turn for $6 (your original call before the re-raise), and that would be even better.

SirFWALGMan 12-13-04 03:22 PM

Grumpy!

Someone having a wittle bad day? Need his binky? Jesus dude. I tell you about a couple of hands I decided to play that worked out and you go all postal.. at least it was not against you. Also, you cannot judge a player by a few hands. I could be a far better player than you. You just do not know. So chill out a little.

The second hand all I needed to call the flop bet was 11-1. I definalty had that in there for the small bet. The pre-flop play was a little questionable..
