Advertising -- who uses it and how effective is it?

For those unfimiliar with the term, "Advertising" basically is anything you do at the poker table to manipulate how other players assess you.

Some examples would be showing down a mediocre hand, to give the impression that you play overly loose or that you play a generally weak game. Something like top pair with a garbage kicker, or middle pair with a busted gut shot draw.

These hands seem to have no positive value, but playing them early in a session might pay off later, since people are bad at revising first impressions

Other examples in the other direction would be to fold a large number of hands pre-flop early on ("he's tight"), and fold most flops that you haven't completed big on ("if he bets it he's got it")

So how much (if at all) do you people use advertising in new games and what do you think it's effectiveness is?

I realize it is probably more effective in higher stake games, but Im not sure if live vs tournament play comes into effect here as well.

me, cash tabling, nover in tourney play, its not worth it. You can set people up and get moved. At least in a cash game you know they are staying, at least most of them, for a while, so image is key.

At the limits I play, this stuff is not even noticed. I would love to, one day, actually build a bankroll to allow myself to play limits where this type of stuff is taken into consideration.

At full tables and tournies i dont think its that effective, but it could add a small edge so its not pointless.

The only time I really use it is if I can get a big HU cash game going.
I'll do alot of stuff to tilt ppl or act like im an idiot.
I like to type "LOL" alot when ppl try to bluff and i catch them.
It's also fun to make a big bluff then rub in their face how they coulda had my whole stack if they werent too scared to call.
