U wouldnt beleive this!!

I am seated at a .5/.10 limit holdem table (long life milk) at Royal Vegas. This guy just bought into the game for $12,000. Yes, 12K. WTF. Why would you do that. Are we supposed to be impressed (ok maybe a little, lol). His username is Betmax (again very impressive and scary), and it says he's from Oulu, wherever the hell that is.

You would think there would be a max buy-in limit. They have them at B/M casinos ... wonder why not online. Maybe promote as much action as possible. Bigger pots = bigger rakes?

drewjax 12-10-04 03:06 AM

I could possible see doing this ina NL game, maybe. But a limit game @ .5/.10! The absolute most anyone could wager on one hand would be $1.20! Guess he would like to have 10,000 max hands available for those inevitable downswings, lol.

Slayre 12-10-04 09:29 AM

I would have left and hoped everyone else did too.

jillaj 12-10-04 11:19 AM

Most places online don't have a max buy in for limit because you can only bet a fixed amount.

BlibbityBlabbity 12-10-04 11:28 AM

and in limit it doesn't matter anyway. Many people just sit down with their whole bankroll at a site every session. This should not have any impact on the way you play (as it would in NL).

Just hope he also plays badly and will be spreading it around the table. My guess would be that there are not many bad players with 12K in a site though, so they might just be getting used to the interface before moving up to the higher limit games.

Penguinfan 12-10-04 03:05 PM

Did you bust him?

2Tone 12-10-04 03:23 PM

It really makes no difference

I guess there's a small intimidation factor, but it really shouldn't matter. Maybe he just won a bug multi-tourney. Maybe he hit an extra zero by accident when depositing.

No matter how it happened, you can just consider it yours for the taking, albeit $1.20 at a time :)

BlibbityBlabbity 12-10-04 05:29 PM

AN extra zero????

$1200 is a bit much for .05/.10 too :) Maybe his zero key got stuck for a minutte or two though $12......$120.......$1200..........$12000 :D

Tuff Luck 12-10-04 06:01 PM

Hahaha thats ridiculous, but yea, an extra zero is unlikely. I think he was showing off...

Kidd7138 12-10-04 06:32 PM

If you accidentally deposit $12,000 into an online casino I think you might have more important things to do than sit down and play some .5/.10 holdem for a few minutes.

Gutzz 12-10-04 08:10 PM

when you guys say .5/.1 do you mean .05/.1 or .5/1?

Also I have heard of people from higher stakes going to these tables and just dumping some chips. If he's just capping every street I hope you stayed and took his money.

I have a friend who likes to feel like a 'big man' at the HU penny limit tables every once in a while. He'd start with 2 bucks or whatever, start talking to the guy about BR and stuff like that... then add another 500 or so bucks to his stack. Really lame imho :).

Cheers,

Gutzz

PS. On pokerstars I have seen tillerman on a .25/.5 or .1/.25 NL table with like 700 bucks (essentially he'd find a decent hand, push all in, and then reload before everyone folded)... very funny :)

hackers238 12-11-04 01:21 AM

Yeah, some guy sat down with $8000 a little while ago at my pokerchamps limit game... On no-it games (atleast here) they do have a max, as I would imagine people could bully the pot without one. But in a Limit game it really doesnt matter.

We did all make fun of him thought ;)

EDIT: oh by the way, for those of you who don't know, i play microlimit at a limit .02/.04 table!

drewjax 12-12-04 12:56 PM

I think I won $1 from him, now he's down to 11,999! and yes nickel/dime (.05/.10). what a meathead, the whole point is that it totally doesnt matter at limit play. as long as you have several hands that could be capped all the way through. I guess it could be an intimidating thing at the higher levels but at the absolute lowest levels possible, I just found it amazingly lame and comical.

mrkoontz 12-12-04 02:27 PM

he must be one of those 4'5 guys with a two inch pecker trying to give his boost to his ego. That the only reason for something that ridiculous.
