If Brian can beat $1/2 L, I Can Definitely Beat It...

I usually don't play LHE, but after reading all this success our little Brian is having, I figured I'd give it a shot:

Nice hand aequitas, when I play those low limit tables and there are that many callers preflop I will usually raise with any pocket pair to build the pot if I hit a set. It works well because if I don't hit a set with a small to medium pocket pair I'm not going any further then the flop.

BrianSwa 12-13-04 09:59 PM

yea

yea I always raise with pair also builds pot up nice then when you check on flop they will raise like crazy!!!

BrianSwa 12-13-04 10:05 PM

Hey

hey what does that title mean anyway huh seems to me from the posts ive read of you that we play similar. Seems from what you run that if we where sitting at same table the money would go back and forth until one of us got the well hidden hand? I know your just kidding (i hope) so ill let this one slide!

drewjax 12-13-04 11:36 PM

I just moved up to 1/2 today (and had a good session, +26BB in 1 hr.). I've been plotting this meteoric rise for awhile now. I find it funny when people refer to these limits as sooo low, and micro-limits. My hands were shaking, lol.!!

BrianSwa 12-14-04 12:34 AM

hi

is that 26x big bet or big blind because if thats 26x big bet thats 52 dollars in a hour thats awsome.

Aequitas58 12-14-04 12:46 AM

The bad play never stops. This isn't a big pot, but what the hell was he doing?

Well, this $1/2 so far has been really soft. Anyone who has experience at $2/4 and $3/6: how is the action compared to this limit?

BrianSwa 12-14-04 01:00 AM

Lol

what a moron A-7 os with a flop like that nh , the action on both 2/4 and 3/6 is about the same, they play a little better but alot of pre-flop raising.

Aequitas58 12-14-04 01:02 AM

Anyone else? Tone?

but I did have the top pair and good draw to flush. What was he thinking 6-10 os lol. He got the free look in the BB but he was a gutshot after that.

Windbreaker 12-14-04 01:17 AM

Why didn't you reraise after that flop was raised? There's like so many cards out there that are danger cards, and both of them arrive on the turn and river. A flush and a easy straight could have been made. Usually like to price those out, with a strong hand.

BrianSwa 12-14-04 01:19 AM

i did

read again im stormswa, i raised and was called.

Windbreaker 12-14-04 01:26 AM

I was actually referring to the original post. But for yours, I don't see why you're reraising on the turn, you have to figure you're beat at that point, if he has K and any higher kicker, you're drawing to 12 outs, no need to reraise, just call...then see the river.

BrianSwa 12-14-04 01:27 AM

hey

yea I did it because I didnt think he had it I read him wrong it happens I suppose. My one bad call of the day :)

2Tone 12-14-04 01:36 AM

Well done Lou!

Looks like you are killing 1/2! Can't say I am surprised at your success, but this does go a long way to helping me overcome my fear that the players on Stars are so much better than on Party. I have no experience at Stars, but can assure you that you'd have same success at Party 2/4. The only caveat is patience -- I've had a lot of sessions where I don't see anything higher than 2 pair for hours. But when you do get trips or higher, boy are they going to pay off, as you demonstrate.

drewjax 12-14-04 02:58 AM

Brian,
It was 26x the big bet, so yes it was 52 for the hour. Thanks for the support! I played 2 tables for about half hour each. I will be honest I did catch some very good hands. made straight in first hand of day, made straight flush (flush on turn, str8 flush on river), and had someone bettting/raising with K of that suit!!?? So I certainly dont expect to be able to do this everyday (well maybe a little, lol).
I have been micro-limits lately with some of these free $10 bonuses, and man it is hard ot win at those. I have done OK, up ot about $50 on 2 different sites, but it is seriously easier to play at 1/2 than .05/.10. It is just too stupid at those absolute lowest levels.

BrianSwa 12-14-04 03:48 AM

yep

totally agree I like 1/2 alot its pretty much all I play now what sites are you on?

Aequitas58 12-14-04 08:09 AM

I'm gonna see what happens at $1/2. If I make $100, then I try $2/4. I really can't see the competition being that much sharper.

Now watch: I'm gonna get hammered...

ChipFish 12-14-04 02:59 PM

It is the exact same thing.
If you can beat 1/2 you can beat 2/4. 3/6 and should destroy the 4-8 with mini blinds on UB.

5-10 gets a little tougher but not much. (mind you i am still just dipping my toe into the 5-10.... I'm building 2 buy-ins from 2/4 and 3/6 and sometimes even 1/2 (all 6-max tables).... I cashout one, and play the other at 5-10.... At least that was the plan anyways.... Been doing relatively well at the 5-10 so I'm simply cashing out the 2/4 and 3/6 winnings....
I'll be back on Party and UB by next week after finishing off the Absolute deposit bonus....

And crap.... I have to get on Empire under TP's link at some point too.

Aequitas58 12-14-04 03:15 PM

Thanks.

That's exactly the type of reply I am looking for.

Talking Poker 12-14-04 03:59 PM

AEQ - With regard to the first hand... I suspect you were trying to check raise, but with that much money in the pot and that many callers, I think you should have bet it out for sure. You ended up giving (a very dangerous looking) free card, and cost yourself at least 3 BBs, probably 4.

Conversly, with that board, I think your bet on the river was bad too. What do you do if you get raised? You have to call, of course, but do you really want to put another $2 in the pot? Why not just check and call? One of them will bet it for you...

Kidd7138 12-14-04 04:16 PM

Sorry to stray off topic, but on PokerStars whats the point of not showing your hand if it just comes up in the summary. I assume it doesn't do this if there is no showdown right?

2Tone 12-14-04 04:29 PM

Good points

I think I agree with the suggestion to have bet on the turn – if someone’s on a flush draw here, I like making them pay for it. Especially at lower-limits, pound away with superior hands. Though to be fair, there’s no reason to expect it will be checked all the way around – you’d think someone would represent the flush.

But I don’t see any reason not to bet the river, especially since the fourth diamond didn’t fall. And the table has just proven it’s happy to check all the way around. So even if you are raised, it represents, what, top two pair or middle trips? You’ve got ‘em beat either way.
