Book Review (Poker Passion)

Poker Passion : Place, Person, and Personality in a California Casino
by Joseph Fischer

Once again a good read but not a strategy filled book it is more like a history and detailed explanation of one specific California card room specifcally the Oaks club.

It seemed after reading the book I had an idea of how diffrenent a California card room was from a mini casino or a big time casino with a card room.

It has a lot of quips and tidbits ppl who just want to read a poker book about poker and lifestyle without getting into a lot of strategy.

Chapers include.

1) Prologue : Personal Stuff and Poker Journeys
2) Call this an Introduction
3) A Bit of History (About oaks club)
4) One Casino One history
5) Casino Environment
6) Casino Management
7) Players: The Only Patrons of Poker
8) Player : You, Me, and They
9) Dealers: Clerks in the House of Cards
10) Tipping: Convention and Generosity
11) Props: a Supporting Cast
12) Cards and Table talk ( A really cool chapter filled with all sorts of table talk
13) The GAme Played: Texas Hold'em
14) Bluffing and Cheating
15) Chips,Charms, and Superstitions (another neat chapter found in no other book)
16) Epilogue

This was a small cool interesting little book I read in 2.5-3 hours
If your looking for tips and strategy look elsewhere
but if your looking for a book into the life of California card rooms and some fun chapters on table talk and charms and superstitions this book should really be a fun read for you.

Joe Z on book review 3 :)
