WSOP date move?

As reported on Robin Leach's Vegas blog. Since he's likely wrong about the number of likely registrants, it will be interesting to see if he has his dates right.

Expect a record 50,000 player registrations competing for an all-time record almost $200-million total prize pool when the 38th annual World Series of Poker is held at the Rio next summer. Harrah's will announce this morning that the start date has been moved up to June 1 and will run to the final table beginning July 17, so book your rooms now! The top prize for the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold'em World Championship, commonly referred to as the Main Event, reached $12 million this past August setting a new world record that WSOP and television broadcaster ESPN expect to be easily shattered in 2007!

Just for the hell of it, I'm gonna go on record here and predict 5300 for next years' field.

eejit101 10-30-06 11:43 PM

5,300? wow.

Ill go for more like 12,500

Tony Cheval 10-30-06 11:45 PM

With LESS major sites actively sending people? Your logic is....illogical.

yea

the 12,500 kinda confuses me also, think 12,500 is pretty unrealistic.

Talking Poker 10-31-06 02:31 AM

*sigh*

Lose the "ally."

BrianSwa 10-31-06 02:36 AM

whops

yea that dosent make much sense.

one thing at a time ok, 1st spelling then grammar.

eejit101 10-31-06 07:02 AM

less major sites senidng, but the ones that are senidng will be sending more.

Expect a 300 seat guaranteed on stars and maybe 200 seat on FT IMO

Has any site proposed a workaround to the problem of Harrah's not excepting third party registrations?

Talking Poker 10-31-06 01:14 PM

Yes, but they are weak, at best. What they are planning is this:

1. You play in a satellite for $12k (or whatever).
2. You win, and they put the $12k into your account.
3. You then, by your choice, go and register to play in the WSOP ME, rather than spending the money or using it for smaller buy in tourneys, or whatever.

Somehow, I'm thinking that's not quite going to have the 100% success rate the eejit thinks it will. Or I guess I should say the 150% success rate he thinks it will.

im a man of faith my friend, an atheistic man of faith:rolleyes:

Tony Cheval 10-31-06 04:24 PM

To be honest, when you look at all the problems they had running this years' tournament(s), I don't really look at a reasonable decrease in entrants as that bad a thing.
