Party speed tourneys
 

These tourneys are in no way, shape, or form a good way to play poker. The blinds go up too fast and you are forced to go all-in with marginal hands. However, the $5 tourney isn't too bad as it is cheap to get in and the winner usually gets ~$1200. I do question the randomness of the hands. Last night, I was playing and four hands in a row, someone was dealt KK and someone else was dealt AK, and each time, a K hit the board. I am fairly proficient with math but no way can I figure the odds on that happening.

you are right, these tourneys are a joke. there si really no reason to play these tourneys at all. if you wanted to "invest" the $5, you might as well buy a couple of lottery tickets. at least the payout there is a couple million, as opposed to 1200 or so.

the sites obviously will do whatever is most profitable, and the speed tourneys fit the bill for them, but they arent a good thing for the players.

The worse is when people start stalling near the money. By the time the blinds comes back to you, it's like 3 or 4 levels higher. And you're basically all in by the time the big blind come to you. It's all about luck after a certain amount of time

One guy was stalling from the first hand and convinced everyone else at the table to stall as well. We played 3 hands and the next time I was all-in in the big blind. I think the lottery ticket idea has some value.

I've never bothered to do one, but it sounds ridiculous.

Stalling really early is really stupid. The only time it may be advantagous if you can get the whole table to do it while the blinds are super high and have every other table kill each other.
