I think of it this way. Jacobs is an extremely aggressive player, so when the flop comes 2 4 A Jacobs knows that his opponent knows that he doesnt have a set and doesn't have an ace (since he'd raise any PP or any ace preflop), so unless he has 42, he isn't that strong (pair of 4s, pair of 2s, nothing)... so check raising the flop is a good idea almost always.

In this case his opponent had 77, which I would play as if it were the nuts as well (for the same reasons)... but Jacobs had to assume opponent would play any two cards like this, and thus his 4 may be good
