I don't see how this is much different than Pete Rose betting on the Reds (with a bookie) while he was managing them. Granted, he wasn't an UMPIRE in said game, but whether the bet is placed online, in Vegas, or with a local bookie - I don't really see what difference it makes.
Also, wouldn't this type of thing be much easier to prevent it it was legalized and regulated, as opposed to being underground, like was the case here?
