The first point is having accurate records to pay your taxes by. The second point is knowing where your roll stands and if you're up or down.

PokerTracker pretty much does that for you. You do realize that don't you? I dont' understand how you can say, "I don't really know of any good way to track that."

Why WOULDN'T you want to keep a record of your play? The only one I can think of is for a losing player to keep "tricking himself" into thinking he's not losing money.
