You are farmiliar with betting on football so let's say you bet $100 on Indianapolis today at -9.5 and you lose, you owe the bookie $110 because of the juice, thats the standard everywhere and that is what is know as -110. When you bet on a sport that does not have a point spread like baseball then they adjust the juice accordingly, usually based on the pitching matchup. For example Roger Clemens may be a -230 favorite on any given start which means instead of laying -110 to win 100 you would have to lay $230 to win $100, but you are getting the superior pitcher. On the other end of that is betting on the team Clemens is pitching against, they would be a +200 underdog (or thereabouts depending on the book) meaning you would lay $100 and win $200 if you team wins. When you bet on the favorite the number is -something, when you bet on the underdog the number is +something. Hope that helps.
