Im not suggesting one way or the other, but J8s is not a very strong hand, especially from the blinds OOP
The strength between a suited 1 gapper and a suited 2 gapper is fairly large, and position is a key. I'd be more likely to call this on the button, hopefulling convincing one of the blinds to call and all but forcing the limper to call. Now I get to see a flop with 3:1 on my money and the button.
And the more I think about it, the more I like the opponents call. Like I said he has 8 outs to a straight (plus two over cards)... but the main thing is his implied odds. If an 8 comes he has the nut straight on a 4 card straight board, so anyone with a Jack is paying him off his entire stack (maybe a 6 also!). Both of his draws are to the nuts, one of which is the nuts on a board VERY likely to pay him off. HUGE implied odds
