Default For the experienced user...

For those of you who have lots of hands logged and extensive databases, how do you make PT run more smoothly? Outside of the "one step compact" feature (or whatever it is) what can be done to make sure everything is in tip-top shape?

Sometimes I get frustrated with the program b/c I feel like it is too bulky.... Does anyone else feel that way, or is 1 gHz and 512 Ram just no good once the database reaches a certain size?
