Joe is a very good player, no question about it.
It was a bad/horrible final table for James because EVERYTHING that could go wrong did. When it couldn't get worse, it did. And then after that, poker kicked him in the nuts one last time just to make sure he was down and out.
BTW, the "bad" isn't referring to the quality of play or players at the table... it's referring to how shitty the poker gods treated him.
