Gold Glove Idiocy
Derek Jeter??? Derek "past the diving" Jeter???
Don't get me wrong. Jeter is a great player. Team guy, clutch, I'd be more than happy to have him on my team. But to win a gold glove in the same league with Alex Gonzalez and Orlando Cabrera? Give me a break.

"Yankees suck, Jeter swallows"
You're thinking of their fans I'm a Red Sox fan who thinks the whole "Yankees Suck" thing is moronic. Teams that win 26 championships clearly don't suck. IMO, Red Sox Nation will only mature when they come to view the Yankees as just another opponent.

Easy to not get an error when you never dive to get the ball.
Or are out of position.

Fielding Percentage:
Derek Jeter - .975 (150 games) Alex Gonzalez - .985 (111 games) Orlando Cabrera - .975 (152 games) I say toss up between O and Derek with the edge going to Jeter cause he played 150 games for the Yankees.

Jeter 15 errors, Range factor 4.14, Zone rating .810
Gonzalez 7 errors, RF 4.36, ZR .863 Jeter has a range factor below the average of AL shortstops (I believe Tejada's was tops). I mentioned Cabrara before checking the stats. He had a below average year. Anyone who watched enough of both Jeter and A-Gon can clearly see Gonzalez is the best fielding ss in the AL, probably in all of MLB. Even if you adjust Gonzalez' errors to reflect an equal number of total chances, his adjusted error total is 9.5. Take out 2005 from career stats and Jeter is an better than average fielding shortstop with below average range. I don't want to be a conspiarcy theorist here, but if the gold glove isn't gifted to Jeter, the NY press has to be going ballistic about 2 guys in the Yankee infield playing out of position. Not even close. A-Gon got robbed.

More than any other "major" award, I think Gold Gloves are largely predicated on reputation. They are voted on by players and managers, not by the press, so I doubt the former group really takes as analytical a look as does the latter.
