Default What is your speciality?

What game does everyone play the best and what strategy do you use to beat them?

I personally play the full $25 NL tables at party. I play ultra-tight here, because it is very easy to get action on your hands. I will limp with most all hands, and with pocket pairs I am looking to flop a set or get out. On drawing hands, if I am not very strong and if I am facing an aggressive opponent I will get out. Every once in a while I will mix it up just to throw the semi-observant opponent off.

I like the $25 NL tables as well. One thing though... you say you play "ultra tight here" but then you say "I will limp with most all hands."

So which is it?

I play tight (not ultra tight), and will limp with any poket pair in any position in the chance of hitting a set. Sets pay off so well in these games.

Default 2/4 limit at Party

Far from the most glamorous or exciting, but dependably profitable. Table selection is important -- you want to make sure you find that optimal mix of maniacs and calling station. This is why I really find it difficult to justify spending too much time on the smaller sites, where I might actually be forced to play against competent opponents.

Default Questions for Tone.

Tone,

What do you usually buy-in for? Do you set a win or loss limit? Do you ever play the SnGs or any MTTs?

Edited to add: Sorry, this might be better off in a Private Message now that I think about it.

Default Good questions all

[quote=Aequitas58]Tone,

[quote]

I buy in for $60. As I play tighter than I should, it's unusual for me to have huge variances, so win/loss limits aren't much of an issue. I also frequently play the $10+1 NL SNGs and three tables with moderate success. I find these are definitely more enjoyable, but less profitable.

I also occasionally play the ridiculous $5+1 SNG 11:30 PT tournaments with gigantic fields. I can often crack the top 130 to make my money back. And sooner or later I'm going to win enough coin flips to get lucky in one of those and make some bank.

Lastly, I don't have a rake back deal, which I'm sure is costing me a small fortune in lost opportunity, but am afraid of opening yet another account after my Empire account was frozen.

Any particular reason why you prefer limit over no limit? I like being able to push all in whenever I want. I also feel like I get sucked out more when I play limit games. What about you?

Default A grinder's manifesto

This is another opportunity for that scared money thread we said we needed to start. When I buy in to a tourney, I know I’m not going to lose any more than X dollars. Having mentally converted them to chips, I can make the right decisions, and do pretty well. Also, freeze-out tourneys & SNGs rewards my too-tight nature, as if you bust out, you are done, rather than just being able to reload.

But playing NL cash games, I let myself get bullied, and fold to all-in re-raises that I probably shouldn’t. And if I do win, I rathole (another good thread) which eliminates the possibility for me to bully the table. These are serious leaks, but at least I know about them.

So playing 2/4 on Party is a better match for my low-risk/less reward nature. Ultra tight pre-flop, pound away with premium hands, know when to let go if need be. Suck outs happen, but not at a rate that people miss chasing four card flushes or inside straights and pay me off.

NL is a game of skill and finesse. Limit is a game of consistency. A bot could (and perhaps do?) do what I do.

There’s a lot of talk in other forums/sources about understanding why you and your opponents play poker. I play 2/4 at Party to win a small but steady amount of money. It’s not an intellectual exercise, it is not improving my game, the thrill of victory, or any of that. Just a steady, reliable few bucks a week. To paraphrase the Notorious B.I.G, I’m a true grinder for real.

I am a ring-game grinder, currently barely at 5/10. Variance is a bitch there!
I use a tight style also. Sometimes it sucks when nobody will dance with you, but it seems to work. I hate NL these days. I just want to give my money away when I play NL games! Except NL tourneys which I am good at.

i prefer o8b to holdem, but play holdem much more often, due simply to the significantly greater opportunities for playing that game. i am also trying to learn s8b and get a better grasp of stud, but those arent significant priorities right now.

i generally play low limits online, but move up to 5/10 when playing live. i will play no limit he, but i lost a bit of my appetite for it earlier this year. i was a big winner in the game i was playing, but i just couldnt handle the day to day swings.

Low limit, grind it out type. I have very little swing either way and this is not everyones cup of tea so to speak, but I don't mind a small steady profit, which I am getting closer to all the time. With a few improvements to my game I think I can actually start to count on poker earnings as income, hopefully next year. I can't play no-limit cash games on-line simply because without being able to get a good solid read on someone I find it difficult to call a big bet without holding the stone cold nuts, and they just don't come along often enough.

.25 50. $50 or the .50 1.00 100 NL on pokerstars

25/N/L at party

That's why I win at not what I enjoy
I prefer Razz and head's up Tournys but Razz is hard to find and I've been getting kicked in the teeth heads up

At there lower limits Tight Agg get's me some money but with the bad players I find tight passive (limping in catching the nuts and getting paid off works the best for me but you have to be ready for hours and hours of sitting and blinding off cash.

Unfortunately I have a terrible bankroll at the moment, but when I did i loved the 6-handed 1/2 and 2/4 tables on pokerstars. Not quit sure why but it seemed like the easiest game I've ever been in and you can make a good amount of money at these tables.

$25NL and $50NL on pokerroom, although I recently stopped for a while due mostly to my inability to deal with the swings. Although I have delusions otherwise, it is nice to win a small amount and buy the family something nice every 6 months, the bankroll never really grows to support higher levels. As shitty as that is, just ordered a new 20 inch intel Imac courtesy of the fish at pokerroom. Yippee

Right now my thing is 2 tables of $2/4 and 2 tables of $3/6 - NL 6 max..
So far I've actually won more at $2/4 than $3/6 but the more i play the more confident i am at $3/6 so hopefully i can beat that game more consistantly soon.
I never have time to play tournaments anymore but one of my New Year's goals was to make TLB for the month every month - so sometime soon I'm gonna have to play alot of tournaments- and win them too.
