Having said it was only a matter of time before the pro sports leagues would weigh-in against legalized online gambling, it seems the time may have arrived.

I don't see how this is much different than Pete Rose betting on the Reds (with a bookie) while he was managing them. Granted, he wasn't an UMPIRE in said game, but whether the bet is placed online, in Vegas, or with a local bookie - I don't really see what difference it makes.
Also, wouldn't this type of thing be much easier to prevent it it was legalized and regulated, as opposed to being underground, like was the case here? |

And you expect Congress to think rationally?
What is interesting here is that lagalizing and regulating it theoretically makes it easier to prevent such stuff if for no reason other than making it easier to catch the perpetrators. And don't get me started on the NFL. That league owes its success to illegal gambling. But of course, they'll never admit that.
