it was one of those witty, what is not said but implied, comments. The unspoken deduction from the comment "why be mean to strangers?" is that one should save all of one's meanness for family and friends, i.e. non-strangers.

I was riffing on my original absurd comment about being a nice guy online but an asshole in real life. In short, I was trying to be funny. Unfortunately I am not living in Victorian England, even if my sense of humor sometimes does.
