![]() Limit cash games. I've won at every level I've been at prior to 5/10. I'm breaking even there right now, but I feel good about my game. I've been playing very well as of late. I play an occasional NLHE $20SNG and a rare MTT or satellite when I can't take it no more.

NL ring games are what I make the most at. I discovered that despite my efforts to improve myself I can't beat the 20+2's on PP. I love MTT's and they are what I'm best at but they're simply to unstable for me to play them very frequently. I wish that I could maintain my focus in limit ring games since they're an absolute goldmine but I always find myself playing 6+ tables (poorly) and still surfing the net.

I exclusively play NL ring games with moderate success, meaning my bankroll has grown at an exceptable rate. If I have a secret, it is good bankroll management. To win at NL ring games, I force myself to play with a bankroll of 20 buy-ins per table. With this coverage, the money really doesn’t matter that much and I can play my game. I grinded it out at micro limit tables to build that bankroll, then switched to micro ($25 buy-in) NL. I am only at two NL $50 buy-in tables right now, so this ain't gospel.
My biggest weakness is the “I am playing great poker and have had only winning sessions for a week” tilt. Suffered a bout of that this afternoon and donkeyed off three buy-ins. Ah, 10 days of disciplined hard work gone in 45 mins. |

This is why I think limit is the way to go. To blow 3 buyins, you would really have to be running cold, or donking away. Maybe its strictly less variance in limit vs. nl but either way the mental and actual hit you can take in nl is tough. |

It started with KK getting cracked by some clown with Q7o and catching a third 7 on the turn. I should point out that I pushed with the KK, 5xBB preflop raise, on a rags flop I pushed a 1.2Xpot bet, and this clown called with his middle pair. So there is one buy-in gone, the other two were donked away before I could extract myself from the situation. First big tilt I have ever experienced. I wasn't drunk, just not in the right frame of mind. Yeah, the mental and bankroll hit you suffer in NL is tough, but isn't that what makes the game attractive? |

To me, yes. The NL game has a higher variance than its limit counterpart. If you can wrap your head around that, understand that you will lose your entire stack on occassion to 1 or 2 outers, then you can succeed at it.
Personally, that's the only type of poker I like to play. The decision space in NL is much broader and each decision has larger consequences than those same decisions in limit. I've managed to do quite well the past 2 years at NL ring games. It's my bread and butter so to speak. |

I usually lay either online or at the casino here in miami. There is a casino pretty much down the street from me ( 5 miles ) and i play a lot o oturnaments there. Not huge stakes but about a $200 buy in. Those are usally 18 player two table tournaments. Winner taes about tw grand there and they pay op 5 places. Best i ever got there was 2nd place once, and fifth place twice. Thats about the highest stakes I have ever played. But, there is a tournament up north at the Hard Rock casino $125 buy in but a field of up to 90. I am gonna make thje trip there one of these nights and see how i do.

limit ring games. I really didnt play too much this summer (cashed out alot of bankroll). Sort of did some research and played a bunch of different kinds of poker online for low stakes. I played some stud on bodog, alot more NL ring games, STT/MTT, some short handed, heads up sng's (only to get knocked out first round again in the tphe tourney). Having looked at everything I dont know why I ever doubted that limit is the way to go. Basically I think that you can really focus on your own game, it doesnt matter too much how the other players play. It is easier to adapt, imo, to different styles of players. For instance, last night I sat at a $25NL table at Party. There was this absolute donkey 2 seats to my right. I know this term is thrown around but I am not kidding. I specifically recall that he pushed allin w/ 94o, again w/ J2o, and if I am not mistaken called an allin w/ 72o after the flop w/ nothing. He was overbetting the pot like crazy, limp, limp raise to $7, that sort of thing. Anyway I was just waiting to double up thru him, but of course I knew I would probably have to risk my stack to do it. I never got the hand to do it, and made exactly $1 when I left right after him. He sort of had me on my heels abit. If this was a limit table, I would be salivating. I could call his raise w/ JTs and try to take down a big one. No biggie.
I just think that you can feel good about making the correct decision over, and over, and over again. And you wont take the jolting suckouts for 60BB that seem to criple me. I guess it is more of a grind, but if you just pay attention, and work to adapt and improve, you will make money. I have heard many players say that the play doesnt really improve that much as you move up in limits, playing lhe as opposed to nlhe. The only other thing I will add, is that I think it would be advantageous for me, and others, to learn to play (limit) omaha hi/lo..... |
