Playing suited and non suited run cards

I guess I was a bit to broad on what i need help with but you have gave me good feedback that helps a great deal. (Thanks) I can lay off if i see them cheap and have say 4,5 diamonds and only get one, I guess my main problem is getting involved in hands like that after the pot has been bet(before the flop) , sometimes big and I want to see the hand so badly. I mean say there is a big raise and i have suited connectors I tend to stick around and strike out more than not.
