As long as people don't get out of hand i would say drink up. I have stopped drinking while playing cards cause i would always do something dumb. Have started to play a lot better now.

I'm in the over protective minority on this one, I would worry too much about people leaving drunk and smashing up thier car (or worse) on the way home. You just don't get a second chance on this type of thing sometimes.

I think I am sticking to the 6-pack per person and I am having quite a bit of munchies, just so that they have something to absorb the alcohol. The tournament should be about 3 hours.

Just don't let them get out of hand. Remember, if they get drunk under your supervision, and you allow them to drive home drunk, and they get into an accident. You are liable for them.

a 6 pack limit seems pretty reasonable, but lets say you have a big tourney that starts at 5pm and people finish their 6 packs by 7pm, and the tourney is an all-nighter. you might want to let them get more drinks after theyve had some time to let the last ones go through their system, some people might get pissed off from someone 'babysitting' them through an overnight poker game/tournament.
