Default Over My Head

Played some 2/4 NL 6-max hold 'em last night on Full Tilt. Within a few minutes, I notice some surfer dude sitting to my left with "Rogue23" as his handle. Hmmm....sounds familiar, I thought.

Let it be known I have nowhere near the required bankroll to play 2/4NL. The last few weeks I've struggled to make the jump from .25/50 to .50/1 and I've been getting killed at .50/1. Not 100% sure why, but I know some of it has to do with the fear of losing more than I'm used to. The game and players aren't much different, but my psyche during the play sure is.

So I took a risk and jumped onto this 2/4 table with the intention of numbing myself to the larger swings such that dropping back to .50/1 would seem comfortable to me. Quirkly logic I know, but that's me. I do understand that I can lose $400 a pop, but I consider it a longer-term investment.

Regardless, I sat down with only $290 to start having only that much left in my FullTilt roll. Rogue and I basically stayed away from each other the 90 minutes we played together. I think it was mainly due to the cards, not a conscious decision on my part anyway.

I played very, very tight. Not on purpose, but because of my craptacular cards. I looked back and in 25 of my first 50 starting hands I had 8-high or worse. That's a bit statistically improbable.

I realized that this table might notice my tight play and respect some bets, even respect some flat calls on my part. They did, and I was able to steal a few small pots here and there.

The beauty of this table is that it was very aggressive. This allowed me to easily fold my crap cards but also to get paid off when I did hit.

I cashed out for about $420, a modest win at these levels, but one I'll take nonetheless.

It was fun watching Rogue/TP predict a certain player would double him up and then watch it happen not 5 minutes later. Classic.

As for the "line," I'm not always a dick, and believe it or not, I wasn't intending to be one right then. Sometimes though, when one guy in particular is being way overly aggressive (as this guy was), I'll throw that out there... This is a completely different reason that I would say it to Brian, for example. With Brian, I'm just being a dick and stating a fact

What I actually said was: "So and so (I forget his name) doesn't know it yet, but he's going to give me all his chips." Then, we he pushed all in on me on the turn after I flopped and still had the nuts, I happily called and thew out the "As predicted" line. Ok, that line wasn't nice. I admit it.

Anyway, the point of the original comment was to make that guy think twice, and if anything, get him tilting a little. I figured I'd let him run me over for a little while and make it look like I was getting tired of it. Then, when I would eventually come over the top of him, he'd think I was stealing back, but I'd actually have a monster.

That was my logic anyway. The fact that it all played out in 5 minutes. Well, that was just a nice touch.

As for the game.... I enjoyed playing with BB. I thought he was either:
-The tightest player on planet earth
-Playing "scared" because he was over his head
-Getting bad, bad, BAD cards

For what it's worth, he left the room UP... I ended up down almost $400. Of course, that tends to happen when:
-You flop top 2 and runners put a 4 card straight on the board (my opponent had the exact hand I had)
-You flop a set of 10s in a 5 way preflop raised pot, bet $38 at it and get FOUR callers, only to see running diamonds put FOUR on the board
-You call an $18 PFR with AKs, the flop comes K52 with 2 of your suit, you go ahead and bet at it, the original raiser folds and the other dork reraises half his relatively short stack, so you put him all in and he turns over K5o and no more hearts come, nor does the board pair up.
-Etc, etc, etc.

It was one of those annoying sessions, where I knew I was destined to lose and that was that. Early on, the room was fairly strong, but by the time BB left, it was me and 2-3 other BAD players. I figured I'd take them for a ride, but the cards were cruel to me and that was that. It's hard to walk away from a room like that, but I was getting annoyed, so I called it a night... stuck almost $400.

He doesn't have to worry about the cookies, he has to worry about the brownies. From what I recall, things got hazy after that... and when I came to, you were giving me a reach-around.

Did you do something to those brownies?

Still sore,
