Default Imper1um...

This is one of the people I met in the Bahamas this year. He and I were involved in one big hand together in a tourney and he read me perfectly. We talked about it afterwards, and I was impressed by his logic, which was flawless.

Anyhoo, I see he's playing on Full Tilt right now - He's got $160k in front of him playing $300/600 NL with David Benyamine and he's also playing in the $500/$1000 CAP NL game.

Nice.

OK, that HAD to hurt.

I know this guy has won a ton of money in tourneys and whatnot (CardPlayer has him as the #1 player in the world), and I have no idea how much of his bankroll this was, but still.... OUCH.

I think he meant that if you are going to LOSE $150,000, you could go buy a Lamborghini instead.

Of course, no one sits down at a poker table planning to lose, so it's kind of a silly analogy. And to be fair, you'd have to make the opposite analogy too (for when you win $150k): Do you really want to go hang out with your friends or go to the ball game or take your girlfriend out to dinner (or whatever), when you could play poker instead and have a Lamborghini shipped to your door this time tomorrow?

Good example as to why it's really bad to think about poker money in terms of real life dollars...

Default i totally get what ando is saying...

Your logic is dead on tp - but i get what Ando was saying. I remember watching those cash games in Bahamas and what-not and thinking "that guy just bluffed a car with 9-high". I know its not the right way to think about it - but it sort of puts the $ in perspective to the person watching it.

And i dont care what your bankroll is - $150k is $150k. That has gotta sting.

I wish I could remember the hand better. Basically, I had position on him and he opened in EP. I decided to smooth call with TT. The flop came J high (Jxx - no real draws). He made a CB, I raised, and he pushed in on me. I thought for a while and of course folded.

We got to talking in the lobby later that day, and he said he put me on 88 or 99, which makes sense, since he was holding JT. I asked if he was at all worried that I had a better Jack or even an overpair or a set. I forget his exact explanation, but it made perfect sense at the time. Basically, I think he said he didn't think I'd raise there with a set, he thought and he thought an overpair was unlikely. He said I certainly could have a better Jack, but he thought his all in might even get me to fold JQ or JK, so that really only leaves AJ. If I had that and called, so be it.

Something like that. It was more than just that one hand though - all in all, it was obvious to me that he was a very good tourney player.
