Default In rebuy tournies, do you immediately rebuy at the start?

In a typical 10 or 20 rebuy tourney, do most of you just call the big blind first hand, no matter what your cards, with the intention of taking an immediate rebuy? Say, in a 1500 starting chips tourney, do you call the big blind of 30, fold the hand to a preflop raise or bricking the flop, and then take another 1500 right away, before the second hand?

I do this, because i feel like with the wild action in the beginning of these tournies, i feel like when i do double up, if 5 or ten min have gone by, it is usually against a stack close to my 3000...and that serves the purpose of 4x my original stack with only one rebuy, and only one big hand.

I don't play wild and crazy at first, just normally play my solid style and i've found that my money has been getting in with the best of it the far majority of the times.

Any thoughts?

Not sure, what if you hit the flop huge, do you play the hand out then and ignore the re-buy altogether?

Agree totally...
However.... Try this....
As soon as you take your seat and before the tourney starts...
Re-Buy.... No nead to play first hand for a bet.
Read the fine print.
Re-buys allowed at 1500 chips or less.
Therefore re-buy immediately before starting the tourney.
Then re-buy twice if you are unfortunate enough to get knocked out.

I also find that in re-buys, I'll rebuy immediately and then push in when I get a premium chance. As long as I am up around 5-6K before the break, I tend to do just fine.

well, yeah...im mean, if you hit the flop huge and win the hand then you are gonna be over the 1500 in starting chips, and you cant rebuy. And if there were a bunch of people in the hand, with chips flying around, hell you might even more than double up. In that case, of course, win the hand, take the chips, save the rebuy, and go on to win the whole tourney.....hopefully

I personally hate rebuying, if I get busted well it gives me the option to stay in but I'd much rather just play good poker instead of taking huge gambles and putting alot of money into a tourney. I usually don't add on unless I feel I have a chance of winning it . No point puttin 10 or twenty more in and then getting busted out the next hand.

You should be allowed to rebuy before the first hand is even dealt. And if you are, you should rebuy. That's the best way to play those tourneys.... start with as many chips as possible.

I like to rebuy right away and then wait for quality hands to use the big stack to the best advantage.

I think if you want to win the tourney, a rebuy off the bat is the good play. You want to double up as much as possible. Always take the addon as well, no matter how many chips I have (if the addon is a good deal, ie I want take a 500 chips addon - for Casinos - for $75 if the blinds are 200/400), its just a waste of money. But 2000 chip addon for 100-200 blinds I would take.

Default Preferred format?

What are thoughts on how rebuy tourneys should be structured? Do you prefer unlimited re-buys in the first hour, or a set number? If so, how many?

Should re-buys be for the same amount, or more than the standard starting amount of chips with buy-in?

Default Dazed and confused

Can someone describe the logic behind re-buy tourneys... don't they just favor the people with the most money?? Or is there some reasoning for this re-buy/add-on madness.. I've only played in freezeouts and don't really see the need for re-buys

I like to rebuy before the first hand, mostly because it forces me not to gamble. If I have in the back of my head "If I bust out, no biggie, Ill just add on", I will make plays I never should have made.

They dont favor people with the most money, unless you cant afford to rebuy at all, and in that case you shouldnt be in the tourney.

Rebuys just build up the prizepool..which is always nice. And if you have to rebuy, it means your chips are somewhere else on the table, so you already in a hole.So having more money, and re buying a lot, only serves to give more chips to your opponents, while you are back where you started. Although, there is one strategy, Im not sure if its been touched on somewhere else on this forum. but here goes.

Some players, if they are starting on an early table where they know the table won't get broken for a long time, like to rebuy a lot. They want to play wild for the first 30 min or so, and hope it becomes contagious. Cause if it does, that means a whole lot of chips will be on your table after the hour is over...in fact, they are hoping that more chips are on their table than on any other. That gives them the oppourtunity, if things fall right, to build an incredibly huge stack as the tourney progresses....which is the obvious goal in any tourney.

Usually my rebuy strategy is:

Add on before the first hand, and allow myself one more rebuy during the rebuy period. If I dont use it, I add on at the end of the period, if I use it and bust out, I leave.

i don't generally like to do re-buy tournys (mostly because i play much more aggressive when i have a "way out") but when i do i always re-buy before the tourny starts...wanna have as much chips as possible.

I hate rebuy tourneys. A good old freeze-out is the way to go. I know that those will argue that rebuys build the prizepool, but i think that the buy-in should set the prize pool and after the first hand everyone should be equal. Rebuys and add-ons just favor people who are willing to pay more money.
