Hi, Brain. Lived and played in Cali for about a year and went to most of the major casino's. Mabye 5 major card houses in the L.A. area (The bicycle, Commerce, Hustler, Hollywood park, and I if there was another one). I doubt getting a job would be tough, but I think I remember talking to a dealer and he said that they only hire experienced or in-house trained dealers. Also, dealers really get treated like crap there(especially at HP). Obviously not the cheapest place to live, but I had a few friends that weren't paying the usual exhorbitant rent, so it might not be to tough to find a modest place. alot of the dealers I saw seemed like they were trapped in their job and just did it in their sleep(players basically moving the action for them). Hope this is helpful, if you have any specific questions ask.

I have heard it is not wise to visit this casino without carrying a gun

Is it as bad as I have heard?

It's not in the nicest part of town, but if you get valet you have nothing to worry about. There were actually two robberies at The Bicycle when I lived there, I think one of the guys is "Men the Master's" crew was involved.

Maybe both, from what I've heard about those guys. But I think he was on the being robbed end. It was a little while ago, not clear on the facts. Although it was a day after I played there.

Default Hollywood Park

Hollywood Park is generally OK. I've never heard of any problems for players carrying normal amounts of cash and don't feel at all concerned when I go there. Just take Century Blvd directly to and from the 405 - it's well lit. There are stories of players leaving with very large rolls and getting followed, robbed & killed. So, if you do end up a big winner, be smart about how you handle it - this goes for any cardroom.
