Default Anyone watching WSOP?????

its getting intense. Too bad i already know who wins though. That ruins the point. Anyone wanna talk with me? Please? Bythe way, who in their right mind would go all in with queen 7? Joe Hachem thats who!

i just finished watching it, and it was pretty good stuff.

there was some pretty good poker being played. i was impressed with some of the players, particularly because many of them were unknowns. not that they arent great players, or that every known player is a good one, but i thought that the level of play was pretty good.

i dont think that knowingthe winner actually changed anything for me. it takes away some suspense, but i wasnt really watching it for that anyways. i wanted to see some good poker, and i got that.

what an awesome payday for those guys. of course, i would be pretty disappointed if i won "only" $1-$1.5 million, when there was so much more money out there for the top spots.

how about dannemann's backer? what a day for him. obviously he took a serious risk with the $5k backing, but that paid of very nicely in the end, and all he had to do was watch.

There is no way danneman could of thought Hatchem floped a straight. I think he did the right think going all in he had a straight draw and then he flops a pair of aces. He played well and enjoyed watching him play. He just went out there and played and enjoyed it. He wasn't worried on how far he was going to make it.

I might be a "safer" HU player than most -- but I personally would of smooth called, or if I raised and he pushed, Id give serious consideration to laying the hand down

PS: It sucks that we couldnt see more HU action, the past two years have been a few hands, I loved the Moneymaker/Farha HU

i thought that danneman played that hand fine. obviously the end result was very, very bad for him, but i think that he played that hand much better than david williams played the final hand last year.

he seemed like a pretty normal guy, and accounts of him since the tourney dont really refute that. apparently he was at foxwoods this week sweating a friend in the WPT event, he wasnt even playing. it sounds like he hasnt let the newfound fame and fortune go to his head.

Exactly what I thought... how priceless that he wins the final hand and over $7M with 73o?!?!! This ought to fuel the donkeys to play rags like that over and over!! Thank you Hatchem!!

HU, preflop, any two cards are 'good'... (for much more detailed, great analysis on this see harrington on holdem, vol 2, the headsup chapter....and while ur at it, read the rest of vol 2 and get vol 1 as well. ull thank urself later!)

anywho, all that being said, and im not in any way, shape or form pretending to be 'all that', but i would have also "just" called if i were danneman, instead of going allin on a draw heads up, trailing some 2.5-1 in stack ratio.

there would have been another opportunity down the road. HU postflop most made hands are already monsters. (hachem's of course was an unbeatable super-duper-monster).

conversely, draws, even OE straights (or 4-flushes), are deadly if needlessly overplayed/overbet unless of course one is on their last few chips, which danneman wasnt at that point.

again, as always, just my two cents.

dannmenn didnt just have a draw though, he also had top pair with an overcard kicker to the rest of the board. an open ended straight draw + top pair + a "decent" kicker heads up is a pretty strong hand.

i dont really know what he put hachem on right there, but i probably would have gone broke right there as well. seems kind of funny to put it as "broke" when he won 4.5 mill.

Did he have A7? I thought he had A3.... Yeah, I'm pretty sure his kicker was the undercard to the straight and he needed a 7 to split. He was drawing pretty slim.

I couldn't have folded to the turn raise (reraise?), but I wouldn't have pushed in over the top either. That was a good spot to just call. On the river, he could call a reasonable bet and at least have SOME chips left or he could fold if he didn't imporve and still be in decent shape.

Keep in mind though, this is from an outsider's point of view. It was something like 6 or 7 AM when this happened and this was after 8ish full days of poker. While I don't think it was the best play, I certainly can't fault him for making the play he made, especially considering the circumstances.

Yep, that's true. But most of the fish out there won't put 2 and 2 together and will play those rags even in a full ring game.

BTW, I have Harrington vol 1... about half way through it and it is by far the best poker book I've read to date. Didn't know vol 2 was already out but will definitely pick it up when I done with vol 1.

Just saw the end of it yesterday since i had to tape it. Even thought I did know who won a couple of months ago, it will still fun just to watch it happen. It was a great final table, just to bad that matasow couldn't take the title.

vol2, the endgame, picks up where vol1, the general concepts, left off. both are an absolute must-read for any half-serious poker enthusiast, IMHO. and no TP, i dont work for harrington either.

also vol3 is in the works and it will be a workbook of problems relating to all the concepts explained in vols1/2. cant wait for that either! should be out in the next few months or so...

p.s.: the fish out there are funny. they all seem to have read the super system (IMHO a totally inferior, not to mention quite outdated, work to harrington's) and taken it quite literally-bet, bet, bet anything, anywhere, anytime. thats where the volatility aspect kicks in and leads to all the suckouts galore which in turn leads to all the 'online-poker-is-rigged' conspiracies...poker fishies remind me of religious fundamentalists-they all literally and shortsightedly interpret the screed of their choosing with tragic results...

When most fish say that they have read Super System that usually doesn't mean that they've read it, it means that they own it. I know 2-3 people who own the book but couldn't explain a concept in the book, they probably heard Norman Chad say "In Doyles book he advocates a lot of agression" and just go crazy with it.

you are right, it as A3, not A7.

still, i dont mind his play, although there were better ways to play it.

i dont think that the time factor can be underemphasized. i hadnt realized that it was so late/early when the final table ended, and i dont think that any of the players had a clear head at that point in time.

just imagine if scotty nguyen, john hennigan and men nguyen were playing at that table. considering that they all drink while they play, i would assume that they would have been a blast to play against orobserve.

my favorite part of the final table was when matusow flopped that set of kings against the aces. the funny thing is mike went around sceeaming and then this guy comes out from the crowd to high five mike but mike just looks at him and turns around and ignores him...LOL the rest was quite boring though so i didn't watch all of it
