Default So....busted...

Well, after a week that began with the biggest poker rush I've ever been on (including winning 30 bucks over the course of three hands playing .05/.10 blinds) and ended with one of the worst losing streaks I've ever been on (topped off by my full house getting busted by quad 8s...see this thread: , I've officially busted my pokerstars account.

Guess this is the poker gods telling me I should study the game a little more and stick to play chips, at least for now. *le sigh*

No real point to this post, just a little innocent complaining, hehe...

It happens.

Take some time off, do some reading, and when you come back, MAKE SURE you stay within your bankroll. If you follow strick bankroll guidelines, it is very difficult to get broke.

Recommendations:
300 BBs for limit
Never site with more than 5% of your roll in NL (and still buy in for the max, of course)
Never spend more than 5% of your bankroll on a tourney.

GL.

Yeah, I was trying to get away with just making the minimum deposit and play my way into a safer sized bankroll, but with the erraticness of the micro limits and my rather limited poker skills, I suppose I was destined to go broke.

The good news is I'm finally gonna have some spare cash pretty soon....might give it another shot after I read a few sklanksy books first.

Still plan on hanging around here, though, and trying to pick up whatever wisdom I can from you folks.

I know exactly what you feel like. Well maybe not exactly, but I know a similar feeling. I had one of the best rushes of my life before. I increased my bankroll by 15 times what I started with. Unforunately it all came to an end and I busted. I read some books, and deposited for the league. I am doing fairly well now. It all comes in time with practice and experience.

Default Hard..

It can be hard to start a bankroll. I usually say if you buy in for $50 you have a small chance of getting hot and getting to a stable bankroll (Assuming you dont want to play .02/.04 for a year to build it up). Buying in for more like $200 I think gives you a stable point to work off of and enhances your chances to grow a real bankroll and play limits that mean something to you. At least this is what I have found to work for me.

I'd recommend bonus whoring until you have a comfortable role for at least 3/6 or 100NL.

BTW - I've been meaning to mention this to you (and anyone else it applies too). The "league" is probably well above your bankroll. As long as you KNOW that, and understand that there is a high probabality that you will bust, it's ok. If you are looking at it as entertainment money, like you would going to a movie, then great. But if you have a $50 bankroll (for example) and don't want to risk losing it, playing in $11 SNGs is a terrible, terrible idea.

I imagine I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but I wanted to say it anyway...

Yeah, I'm looking at it as definately -EV given the quality of the players, but definately worthwhile entertainment.
