It has nothing to do with logging in. It's just an annoying (seemingly-random) server error. My guy is aware of it...... but it still happens. I'll bug him about it again.

Default Good news & Bad news

Bad news: I was away for awhile, couldn't log into this forum, due to this message: (view screenshot below)

Good news: I found out what could have caused the problem.

While browsing this site (one night), my browser froze and then vanished. When I went to click on it (firefox) an error message saying something along the lines of "mozilla is still running, you need to close it before ..." (can't remember all of the message).

What I do remember is doing something really stupid.

I chose to close it off from my Task Manager. Yes, I did get the WARNING, saying something about "terminating that process can cause some serious problems to my system", but still went ahead and ended it, through that process. Stupid, stupid...thing to do.

Funny thing happened while I was away, though. I e-bumped into someone... a member of this forum and we had a truly nice chat. He's a really nice guy and tried to help as much as he could .... and oh yeah, drinks are on him; if ever we meet up!

Thanks for the laughs!

Your one & only stalker,

Sophie

I'm not certain, but that looks like an error you would get when this site (the server) is temporarily down or screwed up or something. How long was this a problem for you? Was it just for a few minutes, or did it last for a long time?

Ending the Firefox task on your computer would have nothing at all to do with the server error you were getting. If that did cause your pc to act goofy, a simple reboot would have taken care of it.

If you were getting that Forbidden error for a long period of time while other people were able to access this site without problems - man, I don't even know what that could have been.

Since Sunday, 3 days!

I emailed both you and NewGuy, only 2 I had email addresses for. NewGuy was in Vegas at the time, and wasn't much help....You on the other hand never responded to my messages.

I added an 'away message' on AIM. asking *all tp members: if site was down?". No response there, either.

I posed this problem/question, in a different forum, and one member's response was : "It's possible the site is borked up. Try going in through another computer to see if you are banned." (borked means broke, btw)
The possibility of being banned didn't seem likely, since I haven't broken any rules, not that I know of...so I didn't bother checking that out.

Was about to give up, when a friend suggested I try "system restore", so I did and here I am.

He said there is a chance it might've been the 'closing off, by the Task Manager" or an IP ban (which is more likely) but...you didn't BAN me, did you? Accidentally, perhaps?

No, of course I didn't "accidentally" (or purposely) ban you. If I had, you would have received a message that said you were banned, not some goofy server error. Ask Brian or Wes what those messages look like. I think they have seen them about 1000 times each. Plus, you would have stayed banned even after doing your system restore.

As for me not replying to your email, I never got it. I'll check my spam folder right now. Hmmm - I don't see it. Can you tell me exactly when you sent it or what the Subject line was or something to help me locate it? I want to make sure I add your email address as a "friend" so this doesn't happen again. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post that stuff here.

And for this to happen for 3 days until you did a system restore - that's REALLY goofy.

Also, I assume you couldn't even get to and not ONLY , correct? If you were banned, you'd only be banned from the forum, of course, and not the entire site.

P.S. Glad to hear you and New Guy are hitting it off. He's a good guy and shabi could probably use a break.

Then again, if he really was a "good guy," you would think he would have at least alerted me (or the rest of the forum) of your problem... Hmmmmm.....

Bunny,

As for that IP Ban thing (which makes a LITTLE sense, but ONLY if you COULD access TP.com and NOT the forum), I still think it would give you a different error, but I'm not 100% sure. Either way, go here and PM me your IP address:

I'll check to make sure it's not close to any blocked ranges. There are quite a few of them as they have been quite a few douchebags that I've needed to aggressively ban over the years.

I never got it - it's not in my spam folder either. Are you sure you sent it to the right address?

BTW... I talked to my server guy, and he's convinced this was a problem on your end, even though neither of us has a good explanation for it. He's guessing that you got a legitimate, random server hiccup... and then somehow your computer got stuck and wouldn't refresh that page until you did the System Restore. I dunno - seems kinda far fetched to me, but if it was only you having this problem (and as best I can tell, you are/were the only one) and it's impossible to reproduce, well, I don't really know what else it even could be.

Kurn PM'd me and I did all that I could do (pretty much nothing).

Oh, that wacky New Guy. I need to find a pic of a buff shirtless body to photoshop MY head on to!

If you want to make sure you get the latest web page, just go to it and hold shift press refresh. It should hit the server, ignoring your cache.

Ah ha! No wonder. While that may be an email address I have access to, I've never used it - not even once.

In the future, email me at poker<at>talkingpoker.com
