I like Raymer. He's a good guy, very polite, very humble, and a great poker player (I like his style a lot)... you couldn't ask for more from a champion.

Default Me too.

I agree w/ TP. Raymer is a good guy. For the reasons he stated, including the fact that I like his playing style as well. Very aggressive, which pays off so much in NL tournament play.

to be honest, i really dont see a reason why people shouldnt like raymer. i dont know him at all, except for the tv coverage, but he came off as a real professional when he played. you might disagree with his style, or dispute the legitimacy of his sunglasses, but i dont think that there is any criticism that you can make of him in regeards to his demeanor at the tables.

inn addition, he has been a valuable poster on rgp for a while. he actually adds something to the discussion.

Hes a good guy. Played in the WSOP before. Got lucky a lot on his 50/50s. But, he just doesn't seem to bring much excitement to the table. So as you saw in the WSOP final table, they made it a 1 ep, because not much excitement.

That's not really the whole story though....you gotta realize it was the shortest final table time wise ever, since they started filming a 9 handed final table instead of 6 handed as they did for years. Plus, within 7 hands it went from 3 handed to over. The whole final table was over in like 4 hours if i recall correctly...it wasnt a marathon. Raymer's marketability or personality wasnt the reason the final table was only 1 episode, it was lack of play to work with.

i appreciate raymer's good manners, but his glasses are unbelievably obnoxious... he played well through the tournament, but he really screwed some people over where he should have gone broke... like against matusow. outside of poker, id like raymer more cuz hes a nice guy. but matusow was a much better player than him, and he lost an important hand against him because raymer hit his draw. raymer is not nearly good enough to make the call matusow did on him, so i respect matusow much more than raymer at the poker table.

and yeah he did get lucky in a LOT of coin flips... which is annoying, because he would force people with small pairs into coinflip situations when raymer had AK or AQ, and he would always win the coinflip. this was completely justifiable later in the tournament when he had a giant chiplead over other people, but it just seems like he got lucky in a few coinflip hands to get the chiplead, then the rest of the tournament was idiot-proof.

just my opinion... i tend to hate people that a lot of other people love, dont get offended by my comments plz.

Matusow blew up and it was a matter of time before someone took his stack. Thats a fact all the table noted when he busted out to raymer.

Matusow aint a great player, never see him get far on TV tournys. He talks a really good game but that type of poker player is justing getting outplayed now by internet players that dont give a fuk when some pro tries to intimidate them. The new breed will move all in and show little respect for semibluffs and bullying tactics.

Matusow also lucked a few times before he met his match, remember one hand he made a bad call and got lucky with a 7 on the river to save his ass.

A few things:

- Why are his glasses obnoxious, just because there is a reflective image? It's not an image of a girls tits or something someone would find offensive. Additionally, he even let Mattias try them on. He saw that people were reacting to them ... so he kept wearing them.

- To win any big tournament, you have to win more than your fair share of coinflips.

- Raymer might not have made the call that Matusow made, but Raymer plays aggressive poker. He's great to watch, in my opinion.

- I don't LOVE Raymer. I don't know if anyone on here does...

to win any tourney you got to get lucky to win those coinflip situations, its just the way it is.

I don't know how you can not like someone because they got lucky in a poker tourney. That's ridiculous. If that's how you feel, you shouldn't like any winning poker player!

As for that "great call" by Matusow, I actually thought it was a terrible call. Yes, he was a SLIGHT favorite... but he pushed ALL HIS CHIPS in - his tournament life - when he was just a SLIGHT favorite. That's a bad play, IMO. He had plenty of chips and didn't need to do anything stupid like that.

I thought Raymer was actually ahead in that hand, will have to check next time it comes on, which should be within the hour.

10 bids and currently listed at $20.49. WHO WOULD WEAR THESE? I could see it as a gag gift, but there are people out there who would take these to the casino, and feel proud.

The auction should come w/ a gun and one bullet so the winner of the glasses can shoot himself.

matusow called because he didnt put raymer on a flushdraw; he put him on AJ, AQ, or AK, which didnt hit the flop. i dont think it qualifies as a matusow blowup, because he had the best hand, and his read was correct except the fact that raymer was on a flushdraw. if you knew that your opponent just had overcards there, theres no reason not to call. it was a very tough, and very good call. matusow did let his ego make that call, because he wanted to bust raymer so badly, but i still believe that he made a great call.

as for raymer, i dont dislike him because he won a bunch of coinflips, i dislike his glasses, and how he handled his confrontation with matusow. matusow was being a bully, and raymer should have stood up for himself.... i think thats why i dont like him.

Actually...when you put your opponent on overcards like AJ or AQ, there is NOTHING at all ruling out that those two cards are suited and give him overcards+flushdraw, which makes this situation very sticky.

If they had a big stack in front of them let's say 8X the max buy-in, would they look cool then?

I hate to go this direction, but WTF are you talking about???? He handled himself like a gentlemen and had enough respect for the other players in the room to not cause a scene. I don't think it was out of the question that Matusow got a penalty for talking the way he did. I am not sure if it was a floor or a tournament director but you can hear in the background that someone warned him during that little outburst that he could talk about himself all he wanted but not to insult the other players. Matusow is/was/will always be a no class jerk-off with average poker skills and ZERO life skills, and will probably end up in jail, OOPS forgot currently serving time.

How did you want Raymer to react, stand up push over the table and belt him one, OH that would have been classy.

You are way off base on this one.

Penguinfan adressed your nonsense in the other paragraph, so I'll address this one. Again, I think you are way off base. Matusow DID put Raymer on he flush draw with overcards (at least I think he did - when he cards were turned over he said he knew that's what he had). Yes, he had the best hand right then, but certainly not much much.... It wasn't much ore than a coinflip. And he CALLED all his chips in. This is a bad call, if you ask me. Plain and simple. He had plenty of chips and time to wait for a better situation to CALL his money in (this is so much diferent than if he had pushed in first, of course).

You say there's no reason not to make that call.... How's this for a reason: Nearly half the time you make that call, your tournament will be over. Done. End of WSOP. Yeah, I think that's a pretty good reson.

Thanks for posting that. So I didn't have to.

The "young breed" of poker players may talk shit and try to wage a verbal war, but that's just stupid. Playing 1/2 on the internet, bullshit away, but not in the most prestigous tourney in the world.

Raymer did what I would've done, sat quietly and waited for a chance to bust him out.

Which he did. Actions and results speak louder than words.

Matusow stinks, sorry.

He made the call when he was ahead in the hand, but TP said it best. "He put in his chips as a slight favorite," which is something I've been avoiding doing lately. In fact, I hate going all-in and I think a lot of people make the mistake of doing that when they have chips. A big bet will suffice in these situations, not an all-in.

from what he said after the hand, he just knew that raymer had overcards. he never would have made that call if he had put raymer on suited overcards, because raymer would be a favorite over him.

i dont think he shoud have hit matusow, but he could have done something besides sit there and just take it. theres thousands of things he could have just said to make mike shut up, without being an asshole.
