Default Post Counts / New Moderator?

Looks like we have 2 and almost 3 more peeps getting ready to join the 1000 Post Club. Very nice!

In other news, especially with the influx of new people recently, I'm thinking it may be time to add a new moderator. The ideal candidate needs to be an active member of the forum (minimum 500 posts), someone who checks in regularly (multiple times per day), and someone who is level headed and can think and act objectively.

As much as I love the top posters here (minus Brian, who need not apply - LOL), there have certainly been times when they have gone off on people (for legitimate reasons or not), maybe acted a bit immature (imagine that!) and so on.... and I'm not sure that's the image I'd like to project about the leadership of this forum. I'm no Saint, but I have always tried to keep a level head and be objective when it comes to being a disciplinarian around here. I definitely don't want to over-moderate, and if anything I probably under-moderate. I don't like censorship and I believe in giving people second chances (and apparently third one too), but at some point, enough is enough. For the most part though, I think people will agree that I'm fair and unbiased, and that's the type of thing I'm looking for in a new moderator.

Responsibilities are limited. Most of the time, there is nothing that needs to be done. The biggest thing, by far, is moving threads that have been posted in the wrong sections. Of course, occasional bannings are required now and then too, but you will only need to worry about that if things are way out of control and I'm not around to clean up the mess (which hopefully will never happen).
I'd like this to be a group decision, so first let's hear who is interested, and then I/we can make a decision. Nominate yourself, nominate someone else, whatever...

Off the top of my head, I'm hoping BlibbityBlabbity and/or Zybomb will step up. There are both big contributors around here, and I can't think of a single time either of them has ever lost his cool, provoked someone else, or done anything at all not in the best interest of the forum. Zybomb arguably makes the best poker related posts of anyone here, and Blibbity has gone above and beyond a number of times, from helping me redo the logos in the header to keeping track of the Bracket Pools and the Bankroll Building Contests, etc, etc...

Thoughts?

TP,

for this issue too i would suggest you make it an 'invite only' option.

you simply privately invite/offer to the person(s) you deem best suited for the job the position of mod, and it's up to them to accept/reject it.

i personally would not make this a public vote issue as, again, this is a private (read: your) forum and you should do things as you see fit. i'm sure you know best who's who and what's what around here and who can/cannot do what.

again, i've seen in other forums before (no names, as always!) public voting decide who's a big man on campus only to have, objectively speaking, unsavory, but charismatic/manipulative characters (now imagine that combo! lol) get in position of authority with very negative consequences.

now, in no way at all am i suggesting any of the old timers here are like that, nor to be fair, do i know all of you that well yet, but, just as a matter of principle and common sense, and based on aforementioned (aeq, are you proud of me now? hehe) example, i think you privately deciding and appropriately inviting people would be the best way to go.

just my two cents...

I'd be happy to help if you'd like...Blibbity seems a bit more computer literate then me, if that factors into the decision (you'd have to teach me step by step how to redo logos in the header )

Thanks for the input, BDMK, but I don't share your concerns. Every single person in here could tell me that the useless post idiot I banned the other day should be the new moderator, but I certainly wouldn't do it. I'm not stupid. It's going to be someone I approve of - someone that meets the criteria I listed above.

But with that said, this is a community, and I'm open to input. It seems silly for me to PM the 10 people I think are best qualified if only 2 of them are interested. Might as well find that out here first.

Zybomb - Fear not... there's nothing to it. Just clicking a few things here and there. It's all menu driven.

Default my vote

I vote for BB, nothing against Zy but BB does alot for the forum. During the H2H thing he did all the leaderboards and stuff. Trust me Tp wasnt even thinking of applying. I think you should do like last time and put it up for vote.

No more input? I guess Zybomb's gonna be the guy then.

BB - speak up if you are interested. No reason I can make you both moderators.

I would be happy to help out as well. I check in here many times during the day and night. Zybomb is a good choice as well.

As a side note...I would still like to see us get some more stuff going in the "other games" section (Omaha, Stud, etc). Seems like we have an increasing number of people that play them. Maybe (in addition to the general maintenance stuff) I could try to get some stuff going over there....???

Blib and Zybomb are both great candidates.

Default My .02...

I think Blibbity would be a better moderator because I think he's more thorough, especially when it comes to the minute details. (Read: His up-to-date charts for stuff.)

but...

I think I might respect Zy's poker knowledge a little more, including his analysis and objective way of thinking. (Don't take offense, BB.) But really: why not have two new mods? They're both offering to do it for free, and it would only mean good things for you.

If you think about it - bigger forums actually reward their "better" posters with mod / admin status for many reasons: loyalty to the forum, fresh ideas, and certainly more exposure to more people.

GL choosing.

I decided earlier today to make both of them moderators.

Unfortunately, vbulletin is giving me problems and not letting me change EITHER of their usergroups... I'm looking into it now.

Thanks for your input, everyone.
