Default Writing poker instruction, need proof-readers

Hey I'm teaching poker to a few friends right now, and I have summarized what I think are the most important aspects of poker for beginners in 10 pages. I plan on writing about another 10 pages (per topic) on

-playing styles
-reads
-adjusting to tournament play

and another 5 pages (per topic) on

-odds
-bluffing
-misc. poker advice

Anyone who wants to read the first 10 pages, post here and I'll post it all here or email it to you or something.... I would greatly appreciate anyone who could proofread it and tell me anything I'm missing or any mistakes I made. Thanks

Very basic stuff.

Have anything on the intermediate / advanced level yet? Interested to see some of your "intermediate" plays.

ive written 2 page of intermediate stuff, which is a lot more interesting to read than the beginner section.... like i said, the beginner stuff is really, really basic and probably no one who reads this site will learn anything from it.

intermediate section i will probably finish and post by friday night

i'll probably do the advanced section in the next couple of weeks

You consider yourself an advanced player?

If so, why write your theories and methods down? Are you attempting to write a book?

yes i consider myself an advanced player, and the reason I'm writing these is because I've been tutoring a few really, really bad players who need to understand the basics of the game before they can stand a chance at my home game. I'm charging them per hour, and reading my stuff is like their homework. If I write everything I know about poker I could write about a 80 page book on NL holdem with tournament strategies taking up about 50 pages and cash game strategies taking up about 30 pages. Getting my work published isnt my goal here, but if I feel good about the quality of the intermediate and advanced sections, and people give me good reviews of it on here, I'll definitly consider sending it to a publisher.

I'm not really concerned with exposing the way i think about poker, because I'm constantly switching up my play based on who I'm playing against. the only people who are reading this who i play with are my 'students' anyways, and at their current level i can beat them playing blind, so its not like they're going to read my stuff and figure out how to beat me.

more thoughts & comments would be appreciated, can anyone tell me the strengths and weaknesses (in their eyes) of the topics i covered (or forgot to cover)? thanks.

Well...

Aren't you still a student? How long have you been playing poker? No - wait - lemme rephrase: How long COULD you have been playing poker? Having a good understanding of the game and being a winning player is one thing. Being able to write advanced concepts of the game (and be confident in that writing) is another thing. [Corollary: How long did it take Hellmuth to finally come out w/ a book?]

I can understand you're teaching some people - and that's good for the game - but I just question your ability level w/ you only being in the game say 6 yrs? (And that's being generous... it's probably more like 2.)

That being said, I don't want to alienate myself from the group because I still want to see your intermediate and advanced writings.

I guess I can just read and see for myself.

That's right Lou,

The proof will be in the pudding.

I had a preliminary glance at your basic stuff and was focusing mainly on your writing style, which is...ok.

It reads very much like a narrative rather than an instructional piece - lots of excess, unnecessary sections that can (and probably should) be streamlined to make the piece of writing more accessible.

New players really like to see hard, focused points - your article was just way too long. You could cover the same amount of instruction in half (or less) words.

I only had a quick glance at it though. When I get a chance, I'll sit down and read the entire document start to finish.

Look forward to seeing your intermediate and advanced stuff - I'm sure you'll be a valuable contributor to any poker forum.

Though we've had some clashes in other topics, i appreciate you reading my stuff and commenting CF. I know the stuff I wrote was kind of loose, thats why I posted it here; for people to tell me whats wrong with it. Any specific sections that you think I could improve? Any tips on how?

I'll let you guys know when i finish the next part, which is about intermediate play.

thanks
