First Losing Month since March 07

I actually should be happy bc i dug myself out of a 5k+ hole suffered in the first 3 days was actually up $3400 on monday, but suffered a $3950 downswing tues and wed for a small loss on the month

Had back to back 2 outers rub it in nicely for $1k pots each

That's awesome that you have kept up a streak for so long! I would imagine you can't play nearly as many hands as an online pro, so that's impressive. How many hours/month you play?

And that's why sacrificing the number of hands you play online isn't a problem, because the fish that used to be on Party Poker are still alive in RL.

How are you enjoying all those "skilled" players eating you up these last couple of weeks? The fish in RL don't stack off and catch as much when they just purchased those chips with cold hard cash, and they sure do respect aggression more. I might be a bit biased though.

From the limited live experience I have, live players do not respect aggression at all. When a pot gets raised 8xbb and you have 5+ to the flop......I really don't see how that's respect?

Unless you play at high stakes, I don't see how you could make more money in live over online cash games.

The number of hands dealt/hour and by multi-table online, it is way too much to overcome in the live setting. Paying a smaller rake, no tipping, no travel, plus rakeback/bonus/incentive programs is a lot of money you give up for the same amount of time spent playing.

I know Zy enjoys playing live and having a large edge over his competition, but I his online edge multi-tabling online must be mathematically greater.

I consider Zy to be a much better player than I am, and was surprised to hear he's only recently hit two 10k+ months. His live stakes is much more than I ever really risk online, but I have shown similar profits by playing a ton of volume online. If I was a good as him, I would honestly expect to easily avg over 10k per month online before getting a cent in rakeback.

Having said all that, I know my approach is not the best when I see JD and BL with such huge win rates by playing solid poker. I dont know if I will ever be that good, but I know playing live is not the answer.

Varies but I try and play Sunday-Thurs each week. On average I'll play about 5 hours a night, but it can be more or less. There's also weeks when I wont play all 5 days either (somethin goin on, things to do etc) but thats the average

It's funny bc the majority of online players are not fans of live play and the majority of live players are not fans of online play... generally better players at the same limits and collusion r the top two arguments given...as well as "everyone is just so tight"

I dont fully understand what you mean Zy. I assume you mean, live play is better because you genearally have easier opponents and less collusion. First part is hard to argue with, but collusion part - who knows.

I have nothing against live play, it just seems insane to me that anyone believes its more profitable for a good player to play live than online at these low-mid stakes games. There is just so many more advantages in online games than live, in terms of profitability. In general, your opponents live is going to be worse than online, but there is too many things that work against you for this to be a higher EV situation than online play.

Also if I was to play poker as a pro full time, I would seriously considering changing your schedule. If you played a million hands for each day of the week, I would bet money on Friday, Saturday, Sunday as the three biggest winning days per week. (I think for SNGs, you can see this in a graph on Sharkscope). If it's possible, I would make these days part of your work week and take say Tues+Weds day off instead.

By stacking off I was refering to TP's recent run with some really fishy all-in calls that he has been getting. However, when I was able to play live I play a weird style of NL but the buyin was $350 and I was simply able to push people around more. My reads affected a lot of my play and I made more money live then I did online at the time; however, I really sucked then. If I was able to find a game around where I am now that was 1/2NL or above I would be very happy and prefer it to online. Have you ever played with married/single dudes above 30 who make plenty of money? Drunk guys with wads of 100s? Edgerrin James with absolutely no care in the world for the $1000 bucks he had in front of him, his endless wallet, and much more interested in the honey that was attached to him? I am sure Zy plays with some serious gifters occasionally being in NYC.

However, congrats on that online production. And to each his own I suppose. I am sure you probably are just more technically sound then I am and have a better return playing online. I suppose I have never really had a period of time that I seriously spent playing online more than a month at the stakes I prefer. So like I said, I am probably biased.

A lot of ppl are there to gamble, thus they wanna see flops (they also arent multitabling and seeing a zillion hands an hour so good hands come by that much quicker to them, so patience is a factor also)

Also live the blinds generally dont effect the PFR as much as the game/stack sizes. I know 5/5 games with a $3k Max Buy and 5/10 with a $5K Max Buy. The opens in 5/5 with the 3 k max where everyone has lots of cash on the table are $60-75 on average (bigger than the 5/10 which is 50-70 usually)

Edit: As an example in tonights 5/10 game everyone was limp/call happy so I adjusted my PFRRs accordingly. When $60 got 6 callers, I tried $80 which got 6 again, then $100 which only got 3. I found $100-110 to be the right amount to raise after 2-3 limpers have entered and about $60-75 if no limpers had entered which limited the action down to 1-3 callers max so thats what I began raising

It looks like this has been addressed by now, but you do see how completely backwards this argument is, right? Yes, the morons have been getting there against me a lot lately, but when the cards are turned over, I'm more often than not VERY happy to see how badly these "skilled" players have been putting their money in.

It stings and is often hard to stomach, but I understand variance and running badly and all that fun stuff. At least online, if I'm going to run badly for 50,000 hands, I'll get through that in my lifetime. Do you have any idea how long it takes to play 50k hands live???

And just for the record, I finished up in April. I was hoping for a $10k month myself, but didn't get anywhere close after the last 3+ weeks. Fortunately, the first few days of the month started off really well, so I finished up > $2k. And I have almost $1k in rakeback coming. Not horrible numbers for a significantly below expectations month.

I've said it before and realize it falls on deaf ears, but I'll humor myself anyway:

If you spent 25 hours a week (we won't even count your travel time) playing online (even playing lower stakes), you would win more money than you win live.

I'm assuming you'd continue to play well and are capable of multi-tabling, etc.

I had 2 straight years without a losing month, then I had 3 months straight of losing to start of '08. Poker sucks sometimes.

K. I was highlighting things that a relevant to your situation, and trying to poke fun at you. However, I recognize the argument is silly and have learned many times from this forum that we want fish to stack off with worse. Like I said, I'm biased towards live play and whatever I am saying is skewed. I enjoy the social aspect of live poker quite a bit, and sitting in front of a computer screen grinding wears on me after a while. Firing squad finished? Kthx.
