This Can't Be Good: 60 Minutes Tomorrow (11/30) Night
Just saw a teaser for 60 Minutes. They'll have a segment on the Absolute Poker scandal. This cannot be good for the cause.

I think it will be !! People need to know that it is "watched " and pretty fair. With the acception(sp?) of someone playing with their friend at the table I think its pretty legit. Im looking forward to it!!

I'd like to be so optimistic, but I fear the pols on both sides of the aisle who want to "protect" us will only see *online poker* and *cheating*.
I would, however, be happy to be wrong.

I'm not in the US and cant see this 60mins thing but my take from what i've read on other forums is that its basically about how other poker players or gamblers as they put it discovered the whole thing, i personally think it will do more good than harm.
Thats just my take on it as im in the UK and basically know next to nothing about this. |

Just finished watching it, and I haven't changed my opinion. Too much of what they show makes it look like its all a shady operation. Makes me glad I live 45 minutes from a couple of poker rooms.

just watched it online . I don't think it was that bad. Although they mentioned 3(?) times that online poker is illegal, and that is it illegal in Canada, all in all I thought it was pretty fair. They went after UB/AP pretty hard, named Russ Hamilton, and left with the impression that it could be happening at any site. But who knows, they also told everyone it was simple to create an account and deposit via a credit card and they highlighted a few former programmers and lawyers that make a killing, so maybe that was the take home for the general public.

I thought it was fair, too, But you and I are not a) politicians, b) the general public who do not gamble online, nor c) DOJ types (i.e., former prosecutors). Although they mentioned 3(?) times that online poker is illegal, and that is it illegal in Canada, I hate when they do that with no explanation. Yes, it is illegal to run an online gaming website in all 50 U.S. States (and I assume in Canada), but the way they phrase it it sounds like all players are breaking the law, which is untrue.

As soon as they said it was a 18 billion dollar a year business.How can the dems not want tax and regulate????
Overall it was kinda a puff piece....
