4-8 local casino game.. with kill.

Kill is on.

I'm the big blind, i get dealt [8s,8h]

under the gun is the kill and raises to 16
everyone except the button calls! I raise to 24 to build a bigger pot, everyone calls, 9 in.

Flop [As, 8c, 2c]

Small blind checks, I bet (we'll call me player 1), fold, fold, fold, raise to 16(player 2), call (player 3), call (player4), everyone folds to me. I re-raise to 24, everyone calls, so 4 left.

Turn [5s] I bet 16, everyone calls.

River [Js]

I Check, player 2 checks, player 3 bets!, player 4 folds, I call, player 2 also calls.

Player 3 shows [10s, 3s] for flush
I have trips 8s
Player 2 shows [Ac, Jc] (2 pairs and missed club draw)
Player 4 says he was on clubs too so he was dead.

Disgusting.. he was in for $72 fishing that flush.

Eventually, I got a few hands and broke even for the session *about 4 hours*

I watched the guy go home DOWN $500 (and that's including that huge pot)
From from that pot on, he lost $800+ (and he even won a handful of hands in between)

I guess that's some consolation.. but it still sucks. I wouldn't have been so upset if I had lost to the AJ club flush cause he has a great draw.

I know everyone will tell you that you want him chasing that because in the long run he'll pay you off with bad plays like that, but f*ck the long run, that shit still hurts.

Yes, I agree with you. First of all, I'm not playing against him ALL the time in the long run. Also, pots dont get that big very often in one session. And finally, I'm pretty tight so I wont be in many hands and he'll just lose 'my money' to other people. There are some nights the fish will lose to every single person but still cream me

that's the way the cards fall, it's a tough break, and in the long run if you play good poker you'll come out on top.

if it wasnt T3s it wouldnt be that bad, but jeezus, T3? novice players love to play anything that is suited, and when they catch they win big, and it's usually against good players that are trying to trap them. oh well, KEEP ON PLUGGIN.

I think the fact that 9 people saw the flop for $24 shows how ridiculously bad of a table you were at. That he runner runnered a flush playing T3s just confirms it. Terrible luck, but just keep on telling yourself, "I'll win in the long run, I will win in the long run..."

I dont know about that... sometimes people just come in $8, then another $8, then another $8... the raises were far apart. Also, there was an Ace and no face cards on the flop so alot of the the KQ type hands had to fold right away.
There were 2 really bad players at the table and everyone else was fairly decent.

I do win in the long run.. but I might not see another pot that big for months so it's depressing :P

Default Wow

That one hell of a hyper aggressive table. Certainly the bad beat sucks. But I'm curious about what people think of the re-raise before flop with pocket 8s. That strikes me as too aggressive with that many callers -- if an overcard comes, somebody is going to have it. Can't believe no one folded - nine players sticking with a three-bet for those stakes! Where is this place?

Did you think you were fossilman?

It is aggressive...but put it this way.. you're going to call the 16 on the big blind right? With that many people already in, might as well raise it to $24 or fold, get another $40-50 into the pot and people have to keep an eye on you, if it hits, you're gold, if it doesnt, you've only lost $8 more

I don't know If I agree. I mean if it hits, your "gold", but people are already afraid of you because of your preflop reraise. So If no one else hits, you may be the one running the table, and others may fold. However if you don't hit, then you're probably not going to try to run the table, but with only two outs to improve your hand, the drawing odds aren't to good here.

On the other hand, if you call and then you don't hit, you lose 8 less chips. And if you call and you hit, the other raisers will probably be trying to play the table, and you can smooth call and extract more chips.

In this position I would probably just call the raise to see the flop.

I would only raise because i'm getting another 6-10 bets into the pot.
With 16 or 24 X 9 before the flop, I dont mind running the table and everyone folding (but on this table, nobody was folding). If I dont hit the 8 on the flop, I dont bet.

Anyways, I think both our ways are correct, doesnt change the result

Yuck, that is very very nasty.

Personally the runner runner I hate losing to the most is when I flop nut straight and someone has an over pair. Runner runner boats make me sick .

Cheers,

Gutzz

That's just plain bad luck but at least he has an over pair, he doesnt know you have a straight (in most cases he has the best hand). In this hand.. the guy called 6 bets (in a kill pot) with no pair, no overcards, and 3 spades.
