EVERYBODY plays 9-ball.

I'll play pretty much anything, though to be honest I would need a brush up on one-pocket strategy, but I would play play a match like this:

1-pocket race to 10

Straight pool to 150 best of three

9-ball race to 10 as the tie breaker if needed.

If you are worth a damn as a pool player, and since you suggested 1-pocket I assume you have the edge there, the edge in straight pool goes to me (in my mind anyway) and 9-ball between even two average players can often times go either way.

I think we should make this happen, I will be out that way again in September.

I'll have no problem matching up with you - it will be fun. Problem is, I don't start working until October, so I think it's silly to get up the details now. (Game / money / etc.) I'm sure you can see my dilemma. Put it on the back burner for now. In the future, when we meet up, we'll have to find a table to suit our needs.

What kind of cue do you shoot with?

I agree, no need to get specific right now, just got me thinking since I haven't played a money game in close to 10 years. Brought back memories.

Currently I play with a Helmstetter that is identical to the third one from the right in this picture only I had a Predator 314 shaft made to fit it about 5 years ago. I have a meucci that I use as a break cue, but the ferulle needs some work that I have been putting off.

I am using a custom cue made by a guy named Sheldon Lebow. It's a dream. I looked for pics on my HD, but I can't find them ... maybe I'll search a few backup disks tonight.

Were on, absolutely.

I would say since most courses dont mark their ground under repair outside tournaments, GUR is up to the scorer to determine, of course, same with water boundaries and temporary water/flooding? Sound fair?

Also, is there any need to play the round exactly the same day (because it can be tough sometimes to find 4 people that have the same day off)?

Absolutely (GUR). As for when we play, I see no reason for it to be on the same day... doesn't matter to me. Whomever goes first can just hold on to his scorecard (no need to post the results, unless they are really good and he wants to give the other guy something to shoot for) until we are both done.

Sound good?

$50. The courses agreed upon above. I get 47 strokes and play from the Golds with (standard) putters only.

What a sweet bet!

By the way, TP, feel free to practice a few putter drives beforehand, if youre gonna beat me at this, then I really dont care if you practiced or not. It would be impressive to see someone shoot a 120-130 with nothing but a putter, range time or not.

I appreciate the gesture. And I fully intend to do just that (break 130 and hopefully 120 and maybe even 110).

So........ are we on? For $50? Are you cool with us both bringing non-forum witnesses/scorekeepers? We will be keeping score by the book, of course - no "Winter Rules" or anything like that. Sand traps are going to be interesting. Maybe we'll get a few days of no rain before I play (not likely).

I haven't decided yet about the 3 strokes or not, but I'll let you know ahead of time, of course. I'm leaning towards just taking the 47 and making things a bit easier on myself.

So, I went out today to play my round. Went ok on the front nine, shot a mediocre 39 (lots of missed opportunities). Then right as we made the turn, thunder started moving in pretty hard, so we had to quit.

Its up to you now if you want me to just play the back nine now or restart a full 18, just let me know.

I would say just play the back 9.... Then I'll do likewise if I end up having the same problem (which is likely, living in Florida).

I wonder if now would be a good time to tell you I've played a round with a putter exactly once in my life before. I shot a 105 that day.

That was on a significantly easier course than this though. This will be close, but I still think I can break 120.

We are shooting for Friday at 3:30, btw.

Hehe well lets just say I was pretty sure you had done around that before. But well see how the course treats you Strategic hazard may make a course 1-2 shots tougher for regular golfers, but im counting on a 3-4 shot difference for you

We'll see.... I think I'll be ok, but it's certainly not a lock. I haven't even bought my new putter yet. I need to go get a $10 one at Wal-Mart (since I don't want to ruin my putter). Last time, the one I was using was fairly bent by the 15th hole, making things very interesting.... hence me insisting I get to bring an additional putter to put with this time around.

Usualy people can't even believe it when I tell them I shot a 105 with a putter. I have to say, that was one of my single greatest "sports" memories of my life. The bet I had then was that I couldn't break 180! I figured I'd shoot around 145 or so. My friends conceded the bet after my tshot on the third hole, but I decided to play it out anyway. I actually beat one of them that round!

For comparison sake, I think the best round I ever shot at that course was maybe an 89. I usualy shot in the mid 90s there.

At Baytree, where I will be playing this time around, I usually shoot in the high 90s or sadly, low 100s. One time, I actualy shot 2 over par on the back 9 (two lost balls) for a 38 - my single best 9 holes ever. Of course, I had shot a pathetic 53 going out, so I still ended up with a 91.

Win or lose, this is an awesome bet, and it's going to be a lot of fun!
