everyone says that bots will never catch up with real players, but thats what everyone said when deep blue was made, then it ended up beating the best chess player in the world. if the computer takes tabs on your betting, your folding, and even how long you pause before acting, you will have no chance. bots should be prevented at all costs.

2 Things:
a) about comparing chess and poker: Agree with TP here, the reason you cannot compare chess and poker is mainly because you have all the information available in chess, but only partial information in poker. b) Legal issues: 1) EULA doesnt hold up in court. I remember at least 2 cases where the EULA didnt matter one bit in court. 2) Even though Party Poker isnt directly bound by US law, they still cant do whatever they want. International business law still applies. Defendant |

Exaclty what I'm saying. Since a computer can remember EVERYTHING from every game it plays in, against a well programmed bot you would have no chance over the long run. After a while it would get a better read than we ever could on a player by analyzing every play you have ever made. If you tried to adapt your style, or play just the opposite of your first plays, it would begin to notice your new style of play and play against that. Not to mention remember the exact situation that caused you to switch styles, and basically just do everything that we as humans try to do in poker.
Bots should be feared. EDIT: But maybe not the bots of today ![]() |

Correction: EULA does hold up in court.

Right.... because a top notch player could never change his style or mix those things up just to take advantage of the bot (I said that sacastically, in case you weren't sure). In fact, I think that may be one of the bots biggest weaknesses.

This is all scary, I think more so for someone like me who plays very tight to begin with. I haven't played at Party much, but there are sure alot of questions that seem to go to the very core of the serious issues of internet poker.
