im not a huge soccer fan but i heard on espn our fifa team is ranked 5th. has the us ever been that high.

no, 5th is the highest our National team has ever been ranked. We will be 5th until Germnay kicks our ass on Wednesday. They are sending their A-team for that game and we are sending our B-team.

Also, the FIFA ranking are completely meaningless. Realistically we are closer to 20th than 1st.

So it is a running joke all over the world. Talk about football (soccer) with a Briton and within 2 minutes they will say "we invented the game".
